Strengthening Hope and Resilience in Children, Youth, and Mothers in Domestic Violence Programs: Lessons from Friendship Home webinar
    image

Strengths-Centered Advocacy is a unique approach to providing individualized, strengths-based support to survivors of domestic violence and their children.

The approach was developed by Friendship Home in Lincoln, Nebraska as a way to more intentionally tap into the power of resilience throughout survivors’ healing processes. Through the use of the Gallup Organizations’ Clifton StrengthsFinder and Clifton Youth StrengthsExplorer tools, survivors and their children are given the opportunity to discover their unique personal talents and identify how this information can be applied to their lives in relevant and meaningful ways.

Presented by Julie Havener, Friendship Home’s Coordinator of Strengths-Centered Advocacy, as a part of NRCDV’s ACE-DV project, this webinar highlighted the ways in which strengths-centered advocacy can help to mitigate or repair some of the potential negative impacts of domestic violence on children and youth, while also strengthening protective factors that can lead to resilience across the lifespan.

Telling Our Stories uses graphic novel lens to explore violence against immigrant women

A group of immigrant women are using colourful cartoons to tell dark stories about gang rape, marital rape and workplace sexual harassment.

Michelle Tomlinson, who moved to Canada in March 2016 after facing persecution for her sexuality in her home of Jamaica, helped write the 40-page graphic novel Telling Our Stories: Immigrant Women’s Resilience.

“One of the reasons we had said that we were going to use art is that it will appeal to people easily,” she said.

    SECTION I: INFORMATION

Use this section to keep information on what you’re recovering from. You can also put in a list of emotions, thinking styles, ect…
If you can find simple articles it could make things easier. You can try looking at my other masterposts for information.

Some examples, my binder isn’t yet complete in this section either.

    SECTION II: JOURNALING

    SECTION III: MINDFULNESS

    SECTION IV: MISCELLANEOUS

    Back of Binder:

    Seeking Solutions to Self-Injury

    Back Pocket:

    Relapse Prevention Plan

    Safety Plan Cards

I also like to keep a lot of loose-leaf paper in the back and behind certain printouts. You can check out my recovery resources page for more places to find therapy and self-help worksheets- there is an entire section just for worksheets. Also, look at my worksheets tag (stuff I have yet to print out for myself).

My binder is still VERY incomplete so I will be going through and getting new worksheets off of all the websites listed on my resources page as well. Chose what you need for what you’re going through.

As you can tell, for my binder I really like to find worksheets from Jessica Mullen and Natalie Masson.

You can also categorize your binder by disorder differently, personally, I think mine needs to be reorganized but I’ll do that after I post this because it’s driving me crazy.

    Coping Bank and Alternatives Jar

Some people may have been having trouble with the journaling links so I updated them for you. Hopefully this works better.

With everything that is going on right now we cannot forget to take care of ourselves. We are as effective in exacting change and transformation if we do not first give ourselves the transformational and foundational self-love and care we need.
