In opposition to all politicians who are attempting to criminalize the existence of and supporting of trans children. Supporting trans children is not child abuse, it’s vital. Trans children need supportive parents and communities in order to survive and thrive. Parents who support their children are not criminals–and neither are trans children.

(Image description: five images with black backgrounds and black text inside white boxes; the text in the images reads 1) “Supporting trans youth is suicide prevention not child abuse”, 2) “Supporting trans children is good and respectful parenting”, 3) “Access to transition related healthcare saves lives”, 4) “Trans youth need supportive parents, educators, healthcare providers, and communities to thrive”, 5) “Support parents and caregivers who support their trans children”.)

For context: recently there was a legal custody dispute in Texas between two separated parents centered around whether or not their child is trans and whether or not the child should be able to socially transition. The mother supports her child’s trans identity and the father accused the mother of trying to force their child to be transgender. Conservatives have taken up the cause, in three states so far, to ban parents and medical professionals from supporting trans minors.

Meaning that any parent who supports their child in socially transitioning in one of these states could be investigated for child abuse. Parents who consent to their children receiving puberty blockers or HRT would be considered child abusers.

These politicians are trying to legally define “transitioning of a minor” as felony child abuse.

Doctors who prescribe puberty blockers and parents who consent to their children having them have been targeted especially, but I believe it won’t be long before professionals who practice gender affirming therapy and who diagnose gender dysphoria in minors are targeted as well.

Right now it’s three states. I believe there will be many more. This is the new “bathroom bill”.

“Conservative lawmakers in Texas, Georgia and Kentucky are calling for laws to prohibit minors from receiving gender transition-related health care such as puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy. Providers who administer these treatments, which are in some cases used to treat gender dysphoria in youth, could face a felony charge under a Georgia lawmaker’s proposal.”
