Wellness Corner: Let’s Celebrate

Moments worth celebrating can be found all throughout our day. They can be as small as admiring a beautiful flower and as big as accomplishing one of your life goals. They are all of those things that make us smile and lift up our spirits. No matter the size, let’s celebrate them.
In today’s world, finding time to celebrate can be difficult. It might be that we interpret celebrating as hosting a big party. But a celebration can be anything. The poet Walt Whitman said, “I celebrate myself, and sing myself.” We can celebrate each day by doing the things that lift up our hearts. Look around you right now and find things that are worth celebrating like your family, a supportive coworker, a trusted friend, a great dessert, a survivor’s accomplishments, the end of your workday or better yet, payday! If we focus on finding those moments worth celebrating, we will see that our days are full of them.
Here are three ways to help you celebrate each day:- Laugh. There is scientific evidence that shows that laughing puts you in a better mood. Try to make an effort each day to read something funny. - Dance. Let’s end our work day by dancing to our favorite tunes. Dancing has so many benefits: it can lighten hours of stress, the physical movement of dance helps reduce anxiety and dancing with others also helps us feel more connected and social.
- Dream. Even the things we have not yet achieved can be cause for celebration. Make to-do lists, visualize your wildest successes, and create joy at the beginning of all new journeys.
